Images > 2008 – Quilters of Color Network

The Quilters of Color Network New York visited EVS students to teach about the craft and its connection to African American history and culture. Six students encircle a quilt to touch its brightly colored panels. Two students touch a small textured quilt panel. Three students touch and look closely at a large quilt with a yellow perimeter.
The CANY educator leads a discussion about the meaning of the quilt. Quilters of Color are affiliated with the Manhattan Doll Club, and the visiting educator also brought handmade dolls. A student touches a 16-inch handmade doll of an elderly African American sharecropper. Two students explore the materials doll makers used to make the dolls.
